Who we are

Hunger is often an effect of poverty.Being poor does not only mean a lake of money.The UN says-“Poverty is a violation of human dignity .It means not being able to participate effectively in society.Which by definition can mean not having:

# Enough money to get food or clotes,

# A school or clinic to go to,

# The land on which to grow food;

# Access to clean water or sanitation;

# a job to earn  a living .

In 2005, 1.4 billion people in developing countries lived in extreme poverty, living on less than $1 .25 a day.This is more than the population of the EU and U.S.A combined.

Totalled 925 million hunger people in the world wide(2010) where region wise statistics as below:

1. Developed Countries                  : 19 million

2. Near East and North Africa        : 37 million

3. Latin America and the Caribbean: 53 m

4. Sub-Saharan Africa                    : 239 m

5. Asia and The Pacific                   : 578 m

 

Among them more than 800 million people go hungry every day. Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger related causes.Even in the United States,14.5 percent of households to struggle to put food on the table.More than one in four American children are at risk of hunger .More than one in five children live in households that struggle to put food on the table.

And What about United Kingdom?

In 2009-2010, the percentage of the population living in relative poverty stood at 17.1%(before housing cost) and 22.2% (after housing costs).

17-18% of the population are found to be in poverty at any one times consistently from 1994-2004 .Sources:BBC News.In 2003 to 2004 ,

21% of children lived in house holds below the poverty line,After housing costs are taken into account ,this rises to 28%.

3.9 million single people in the UK were living below the poverty line in 2005.Many of these people are divorced women.

One Third of deaths would wide are due to poverty related causes.

Approximately half the world’s population live in less than $2.50 per day.

Set up 2000 as a response of the MDG “2015 target to reducing poverty by half” the PAHD raised its research profile with others world reputed Charitable organization  of “ the other half”-those who would still be poor by 2015 despite current anti-poverty policies .During its existence the PAHD would provide evidence on what policy makers and civil society leaders can do to assist more through its some  key issues and  objectives -research, policy analysis and dialogues , policy engagement by intergovernmental negotiating on poverty alleviation and human development , provide robust data or survey ,monitoring ,campaigning about poverty alleviation and human development related issues  ,build up awareness programme across the globe, movement for any kind of injustice, corruption ,gender inequality ; ensuring governmental transparency and accountability in line with the direction of world’s governing body policy makers  like United Nation, CPRC(Chronic Poverty Research Centre, UK),Department for International Development, UK etc.
